Possibility of weekend | Bruce Springsteen, Mardi Gras and a wedding show

It’s a big weekend for “The Boss” fans.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band take the stage at the T-Mobile Center on Saturday night at 7:30pm. Alternatives include a “Stranger Things” themed party at Atchison and a Mardi Gras party at The Peculiar Winery.

Friday 17 February

Noon – 1pm The Science Matters Lunch & Learn: Building The World’s First Destination Railroad Bridge event Friday at Kansas City Public Library Central Library14 W. 10th St., Will provide an update on the Rock Island Bridge project. Plans call for the former railroad bridge to be converted into a recreation and entertainment space, where visitors can enjoy a drink and snack on the Kansas River. If you can’t do it in person, there’s a virtual one option. A Zoom link is included with registration. The event is free.

18:00 ImPulse Art Gallery, 1007 Armor Road, will be hosting a Charlie Parker Suite Art Talk on Friday evening. The celebration of black history and one of Kansas’ most famous citizens will give artist Michael Brantley the microphone to talk about his large-scale paintings of Charlie “Bird” Parker and you will have the opportunity to ask questions in a question and follow up responses. The conference is free. Donations are recommended.

18:00 – 20:00 Spend Friday night at the “Upside Down” at The artist’s box, 407 Commercial St., Stranger Things Theme Party. The trip to Atchison should be worth it for fans of the popular Netflix series. Organizers have planned a few Stranger Things-themed art projects for you to choose from, as well as pop-up vendors with merchandise inspired by the show. There will be light refreshments and episodes streaming in the background. The party is open to all ages. Tickets cost $5.

Saturday 18 February

10:30am – 4:30pm Tower-Con 2023 is set for Saturday at Union Hill’s Tower Tavern, 401 E. 31st St. The “micro-con” is open to anyone passionate about comics and collectibles and looking for a relaxed environment to connect with fellow enthusiasts or add to their collection, perhaps over a burger and beer. There are no membership fees, but the group is collecting donations for Lotus Care House. Every $5 donation is a sweepstakes entry for a chance to win a prize at the end of the day.

10am – 5pm For the first time, KC Love at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Road, will bring over 100 vendors to the historic space for a full day of shopping while supporting local businesses and spreading love in Kansas City. You can look forward to an over 21 cash bar, activities for children and special guests including the KC Current Teal Mobile, a chance to win ‘Love Bucks’ to spend at the show and much more. Check out the full list of participating vendors online in advance. Tickets cost $8.

Noon – 5pm Rochester Brewing and Roasting Co. is Partnering with The Upper Crust Bakery for a Pie Pairing Event at Crossroads Rochester location2129 Washington St. A $15 ticket to the event is good for a flight of four cake samples paired with your choice of four different beers or coffee.

Noon – 8.30pm Celebrate Mardi Gras with a day trip to The Special Cellar, 20709 Harper Rd. The cantina will have New Orleans jazz on the speakers, King Cakes from Peculiar’s Flytte Eatery, chicken and sausage gumbo plus the fixings and, of course, plenty to drink. Tickets cost $12.

7.30pm “The Boss” is back in town and tickets from the second sale are still in circulation for anyone interested in Saturday night’s Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band show at the T-Mobile Center, 1407 Grand Blvd. The 2023 tour is Springsteen’s first tour with the E Street band since 2017. Ticket prices vary.
