WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – The cold wind didn’t stop a tradition in Texoma, the annual Mardi Gras – Nocona-style parade took place today.
We tend to think of New Orleans or other major cities when it comes to Mardi Gras festivals, but one Texoma city has continued to bring us entertainment 13 years in a row.
“Well, every year, it’s something for all of us to really enjoy and experience and for those who come here it’s new to them, like her, it’s something they’re interested in,” said Brooke Hester, a parade attendee.
Mardi Gras, Nocona style, the streets were covered in yellow, green and purple and crowds gathered around the fences to watch the floats roll by throwing beads and candy, this hour long parade brought people from all over Texoma .
“I was born here, but I actually live in Oklahoma, and I work at the Red River casino, and we go hand in hand with Nocona. It just reminded me of when I was a little girl, I’d come with my family, and we’d hang out, we’d always see everyone we knew, there’s always someone you know when it’s such a small town, you always meet someone you know,” said Brittan Pierce , a native of Noconan.
A woman comes from Lake Arrowhead to enjoy the event with her grandchildren.
“It’s just a great time for everyone to go out and have fun. They’re throwing candy and beads, and the kids are screaming,” said parade attendee Debra Pryor.
He hopes the parade brings more activity to Nocona.
“I hope they’re able to incorporate a lot more stuff around here like this, because it’s a wonderful little community, and it’s family oriented, and everybody knows everybody, or you’d think, everybody tends to. I know everybody, I wish the town had a lot more stuff around here,” Pryor said.
Another successful year of a week-long tradition that still brings hundreds of people all over Texoma.
