History
SAN DIEGO – Wichita State rallied from being ruled in its last outing with two wins in rule Saturday, defeating FDU, 10-0, and San Diego, 13-0.
Wichita State (7-3) closes out the Torero Classic Sunday with another game against FDU at 12:00 CT.
Sydney McKinney made more history on Saturday, extending her hitting streak to 28. This places her on the NCAA roster, ranked for the 17th longest in NCAA history.
Alison Cooper threw the 20th no-hitter in school history in the 13-0 run-rule by the San Diego Shockers. You only allowed two base runners to walk.
Wichita State tied a school record with three 3-pointers in the night cap against San Diego.
Game 1 against FDU
Zoe Jones led the offense with one home run, one triple and four RBI. Sami Hood hit the first home run of his career and Sydney McKinney recorded his second triple of the weekend. Addison Barnard stole a school record by tying four bases and striking out three times.
Alex Aguilar pitched a batter in the complete shutout of the game. He notched a season-high six in his second win of the season.
After a three-pointer, three down on the first, McKinney wasted no time getting the Shocker offense going again in the bottom half. The second pitch was promptly smoked off the right field wall for an opening triple. Barnard followed with an infield single and then Lauren Lucas slammed McKinney home. Barnard would make it 2-0 after stealing second and then going all the way around on a wild pitch and throwing error.
In the bottom of the third, Wichita State scored with two outs. Back-to-back walks by Barnard and Lucas led Jones to a three-run blast, making it 5–0. After a single by Lauren Mills, Hood delivered the first homer of his career over the wall in left field to put the Shockers up, 7-0.
A quarter three-track bottom put the icing on the cake. A couple of errors kept the inning alive. First run scored on a double steal with Barnard scoring and Lucas taking second. Another came on the second fielding error of the frame and then a Jones RBI triple made it 10-0.
Game 2 against San Diego
Sydney McKinney posted a 4 for 4 night with one home run, two RBI and three runs. Zoe Jones capped off her stellar day with three more hits, including another 3-pointer, a home run and five RBI. Addison Barnard went 3 for 4 with three runs and another stolen base. He stole five bases between the two games.
Lauren Lucas came off a short slump with a pair of hits, including a triple and three RBI. Taylor Sedlacek hit his first career triple, going 2 for 3 with one RBI and two runs.
As a team, Wichita State had a season-high 17 hits.
Alison Cooper improved to 3-1 in the round with her no-hit night. She struck out three in 5.0 innings.
McKinney and Barnard opened the top of the former with back-to-back singles. Enter Zoe Jones. Jones hit his second three-run home run of the day over the fence in left field to give the Shockers an early lead. After a single by Lauren Mills, Taylor Sedlacek snagged an RBI triple down the right field line. The fifth run of the frame occurred in the next at bat when Lainee Brown hit an infield single to score Sedlacek from third.
A four-run in the bottom of the second gave the Shockers a 9-0 lead. McKinney started the scoring with an inside-the-park home run, running on a torn ball to left center. Barnard singled, stole second, advanced to third on a pitching error, and then homered on Lucas’ RBI infield single. Jones drove in Lucas to his second three-pointer of the day and then a fly by Mills closed the score.
Another bad number put Wichita State up 12-0 in the top of the third. Lucas got down to the left field line for a two-run triple and then an RBI single by Jones put the finishing touches on a three-run frame.
McKinney’s fourth hit of the night came on top of the fourth along with an RBI to give the Shockers a 13–0 lead.
