TOPEKA (KSNT) — A staple in the Topeka community is making a big comeback Monday.
The Gage Park Mini toy train is returning to Topeka. The train will be fully electric, making it more energy efficient.
With spring temperatures returning, Topekans are spending more time outdoors, and for many, Gage Park is their favorite spot. The return of the little train will be just one more reason for people to frequent Gage Park.
“This is the place to be,” said state representative Fred Patton. “We have things for you to do. Come and enjoy the zoo, take the train, go to the discovery center.
The train has been circling Gage Park since 1967 and holds a lifetime of memories.
“It’s definitely a generational thing here in Topeka,” said Topeka resident Heather Stanley. “I know especially my grandchildren, my daughter, they love to drive it.”
Gage Park has a lot to do in early 2023:
- Electric Mini Train: Arrives February 20, 2023. Crews will begin gathering and will likely be operational this spring.
- Topeka Zoo: Arrival of the Tigers Thomas and Nisha. Giraffe and Friends also opens March 10.
- Discovery Center: Daniels Tiger’s interactive exhibit. He will be here until May 14, 2023.
