LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW)-A Lawrence man was arrested after he was tasered down following threats he would make with a gun to a company that recently fired him.
The Lawrence Police Department said on Monday, Feb. 20, officials were able to safely arrest a man, later identified as Marquis Deshan Lee, 48, of Lawrence, after witnesses said he entered his previous workplace and pulled out a gun.
Just before 1 p.m. Friday, officials said they were called to the 1100 block of Horizon Dr. with reports of the threat. Employees reported that Lee had recently been fired and entered threatening and flashing a gun. He left after seeing that a woman he held responsible for his termination was not there.
LPD indicated that it attempted to get in touch with Lee via phone calls, however, the line got disconnected or went to voicemail. Officials then learned where he was and attempted to arrest him in the lobby of an apartment complex.
Officials noted that Lee physically resisted arrest and attempted to run back inside the apartment in front of which he was found. To discourage further escalations, they said an officer tagged him and they were able to safely detain him.
LPD said they were able to recover the weapon that was suspected to have been wielded during the incident. Lee was taken to the hospital for a checkup and was then incarcerated in Douglas Co. Jail for interference with law enforcement, felony possession of a gun by a felon, and aggravated assault. He remains behind bars on $500,000 bail.
