Sporting Kansas City will kick off the club’s 2023 Major League Soccer campaign on Saturday at 9:30 PM CT with a road trip to take on the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The team’s 28th season kicks off with the first regular season game in club history as Sporting look for a strong start after going 6-2-2 in the club’s final 10 games of the 2022 season. Season-opening 15 wins team wins and 10 road opener wins are the most all-time in MLS history.
The Western Conference clash will begin at 9:39 PM CT and will be streamed free on the Apple TV app in both English and Spanish with pre-game programming beginning at 9:10 PM CT. Radio coverage will air locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
GUARD PARTY TO START THE SEASON ON SATURDAY
To celebrate the start of the new MLS campaign, Sporting will host a Season Kickoff Watch Party at Chicken N Pickle (5901 W. 135th St.) in Overland Park, Kan. Saturday. The special event will be free and open to the public for attendees of all ages with pickleball courts available for free use, limited SportingStyle retail items – including the team’s new Hoops 4.0 primary jersey – and photo opportunities provided with the 2013 MLS Cup trophy as the club commemorates the 10th anniversary of the historic season.
The doors will open at 8 PM CT with discounted food and drink deals, including $4 Bud Light drafts and $20 Budweiser buckets, and fans planning to attend are required to reserve a free ticket through SeatGeek in advance. Season Pass members will have early access to the event starting at 6pm and can book a free early entry ticket separately through SeatGeek by contacting their member services manager. Their enhanced experience will include free food and drinks, as well as a meeting with 2013 MLS Cup champion Matt Besler and the first opportunity to sign the club’s 2023 Paint the Wall panel.

On Friday nights, Sporting KC hosts free soccer games for local players 18 and older starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Bank Sporting Complex in Kansas City. Attendees can RSVP online and attendees will be entered to win Sporting KC giveaways and prizes during the event.

With the 2023 MLS regular season starting on Saturday, Friday will serve as the MLS roster compliance date for all 29 clubs. By 7:00 PM CT on the eve of MLS is Back, teams must be in full compliance with league roster rules and regulations.
