A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people 50 and older, interested parties who haven’t yet reached that magical age may still be able to participate. Persons age 18 and older interested in a 50 Plus class are encouraged to call the 50 Plus department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 March – Museum: open-air days for children (6-10 years)
- Johnson County Museum at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 8am to 4:30pm, $38 per person – Come join in when school’s out! Learn about history through hands-on activities and explorations of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games and enjoy free time. Bring a lunch, snacks and a bottle of water and dress for the weather – we’ll go out if possible. We are open from 8am to 4.30pm, but you can drop off and collect at any time. 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 March – Nature programs: spring fun (all ages)
- Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, daily 10-10:45, $4 per person, up to 2 years old free – Come enjoy the spring with a trip to Ernie Miller Nature Park. Visitors are welcome to tour the exhibit gallery and walk the trails throughout the week. Park staff will entertain guests with a special program each day at 10:00 a.m. Each program will feature live animals. Advance registration is recommended; walk-in admissions are only accepted if space is available. The schedule for Monday (March 13) is “Long Live Spring”, activity number 24764. March 14 – Concert: New Horizons Band Concert Series (All Ages)
- Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 7-8pm, FREE – The New Horizons Band invites you to their free concert. Donations will be accepted for band needs. March 14 – Special Interest: UFO Museum (50+)
- Virtual Program, 10 to 11, FREE – It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a UFO! Enjoy a virtual presentation by the staff of the UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico. Activity number 24765.
Registration deadline March 13 – matches start April 3 – Youth Fastpitch – Spring/Summer (T-Ball – 14U)
- Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, weekday evenings and Sundays, times, days, and costs vary – Individual and team registrations are being accepted for this 10-game season from T-Ball to 14U, which will take place from 3 April to 6 July. Matches will be played on weekday evenings and Sundays depending on the division. Individual entries will be accepted and teams will be formed from the individual entries received. Volunteer coaches are needed for each team. If you volunteer as a coach and are chosen as the head coach, your child will receive 50% off their membership fees. March 15 – Special event: Gamin’ with the Grandkids (ages 5 and 50+)
- Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, 1:30pm to 3pm, $7 per person, $8 non-resident – Back by popular demand, who’s ready for more fun and games? Enjoy an afternoon of music, eight games of bingo, photo booth and more. Light snacks served. Activity number 24549.
March 16 – FREE day at the Museum (all ages)
- Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., FREE – Explore the Johnson County Museum’s exclusive exhibit and current special exhibit “Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories” (ending March 18), to better understand the history and growth of the county during this free day. March 16 – Adventure Walk: Missouri Riverfront Heritage Trail and Kaw (ages 50 and up)
- Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 9:30am to 2:30pm, $25 per person, $27 non-resident – Stroll along a paved path following the river just outside downtown Kansas City. Learn about the history of the river and the surrounding area by looking at interpretive signs along the way. We will then re-board the bus and head to Lewis and Clark Park at Kaw Point to view the river and check out the outdoor education pavilion. Make sure you pack a lunch as we will be eating at the second location. Activity number 24850.
March 17 – Geocaching: St. Patrick’s Day Geocache (All Ages)
- Shawnee Mission Park Shelter #2, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, 11am to Noon or Noon to 1pm, $7 per person, $8 non-resident – NEW! This modern day scavenger hunt is a great way to spend some family time at your local park. Each group is loaned a GPS device and given instructions on how to find the hidden hideouts in the small lakes area of Shawnee Mission Park. The chests are full of leprechaun gold! March 17 Deadline – play begins March 30 – Volleyball: NCF Thursday Women’s Power League (18+)

March 18 – Gymnastics: open indoor gym (ages 4-17)
- Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $6 per person – Head to the Mill Creek Activity Center for 60 minutes of supervised, unstructured fitness on all exercise machines, trampoline, and our loose foam pit.
