KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/AP) – Severe winter weather in the Portland, Oregon area forced Sporting KC to move the season opener to Monday, February 27.
They will now face the Portland Timbers at Providence Park in Portland at 9:00 PM on Monday, February 27. It was originally supposed to take place on Saturday.
Sporting KC shared the news by Major League Soccer Thursday night. They said the match “will be streamed free on the Apple TV app in both English and Spanish.”
The Season Kickoff event from 6-8pm Saturday at Chicken N Pickle in Overland Park will remain scheduled for subscribers. That event he will not be open to the public. Everyone who has booked a ticket through SeatGeek for the Clock Party at Chicken N Pickle from 8-11:30pm will receive information from the club.
According to the Associated Pressthe nearly 11 inches that fell in Portland was the second snowiest day in the city’s history.

Some spent the night in their vehicles or abandoned them altogether as crews struggled to clear the roads. Other commuters got off spinning buses and made their way to safety in groups.
The National Weather Service had forecast only a slim chance of significant snow and plans to review its work, the AP reported.
“Kim Upham endured a 13-hour ordeal when snow stalled traffic on US 26, a mountainous highway that connects Portland to the coast,” writes the AP. “Already treacherous due to its steepness, the motorway has been covered by a sheet of ice, forcing some motorists to leave their cars in the middle of the road”.
“It was so scary to have semis behind you and semis in front of you, and you know you’re on an incline,” he told them.
“As the hours wore on, some drivers began to worry about surviving until morning,” the report said. “Upham used a blanket to keep warm and spent the night in the car. To conserve gas, he only intermittently started the vehicle to run the wipers and advance an inch when traffic moved slightly.
“I really don’t want to die on the 26th,” she told them. “I was thinking about it quite often, to be honest with you.”
