Two Russell people arrested for meth distribution, other charges

Thursday morning, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the Russell Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Barber County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals on suspicion of methamphetamine distribution and firearms violations.

At approximately 7 am on Thursday, February 23, KBI officers and investigators executed search warrants at two properties in Russell and on a vehicle that KHP stopped on Interstate 70 approximately three miles east of Dorrance. The vehicle was occupied by 63-year-old Richard Kerns of Russell and 65-year-old Beverly Driscoll of Russell.

During the searches, law enforcement officials located more than 2.5 pounds of crystal meth and approximately 15 firearms.

Kerns and Driscoll were arrested for methamphetamine distribution, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute on or within 1,000 feet of a school, and multiple weapons violations. They were incarcerated in the Russell County Jail.

Formal charges are pending. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The investigation is ongoing.
