Caddo Mills man escapes injury in fatal crash in Wood County

A Hunt County resident escaped injury in a three-car crash over the weekend in Wood County that killed three people.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on US 69, about one mile southeast of Alba, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS said a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 39-year-old Tiffany N. Sammons of Longview was driving southeast on the highway. Hyundai crossed the center line into the oncoming lane and collided with a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Ashley A. Martin, 44, of Allen, DPS said.

A 2020 Dodge Ram 3500 driven by 64-year-old Frank J. Schweigart of Caddo Mills and towing a 2003 Kearney Gooseneck trailer collided with the passenger side of the Explorer and crashed into trees on the south side of US 69 DPS.

Sammons, Martin and Aiden Wood, 16, of Allen, who was a passenger on the Explorer, were killed in the crash. According to traffic police, Schweikhart was not injured.

On Wednesday, the crash was being investigated by the Texas Public Safety Administration in Emory.
