CJ Harris, former American Idol contestant, has died at the age of 31.

WASHINGTON — CJ Harris, a former 2014 American Idol contestant, has died at the age of 31.

The singer-songwriter who starred on the reality show’s 13th season died on Sunday after being rushed to the hospital for a medical emergency, Variety reported.

His death was confirmed to Variety and Deadline by the Walker County coroner’s office. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Singer Jessica Meuse, who performed alongside Harris on American Idol, mourned his death on Instagram.

“I am in total shock,” Maas wrote on Instagram. “Your talent and smile will be missed and the world will definitely be a darker and eerily quiet place without you.”

“When you do something like Idol together, it brings everyone involved together like a big, weird, dysfunctional family,” Meuse added. “I’m grateful that our paths crossed and I can say that you were (and always will be) a part of me.”

The official American Idol Twitter account confirmed Harris’ death, posting a tribute to the former contestant.

“CJ Harris was an incredible talent and the news of his passing saddens us deeply. We will miss him greatly.” read the tweet.

Harris from Jasper, Alabama finished sixth on the reality show after advancing to the semi-finals.

In a 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harris revealed that he previously auditioned for American Idol in 2010.

“I never got past the first round,” he said at the time. “I auditioned for X-Factor. I auditioned for The Voice, but I didn’t get through, and it hurt me.”

After appearing on American Idol, Harris released his debut single in 2019 with “In Love”.

The Alabama native recently hinted at new music on Facebook in a New Year’s Eve post.
