Dallas Zoo closes after clouded leopard escapes

DALLAS (KFDX/KJTL) — Dallas Zoo officials announced Friday morning that the zoo is closed after staff discovered that the clouded leopard was not in its habitat this morning.

The announcement of the zoo’s closure was made on Twitter at 10:20 am on Friday, January 13, 2023. the closure was due to a “serious situation”.

According to the Dallas Zoo on Twitter, the current situation is “code blue”, which means that the non-dangerous animal is out of its habitat. Officials said the clouded leopard was not in its habitat when the team arrived at the zoo this morning and its whereabouts remain missing.

The Dallas Police Department is on site and providing assistance Dallas Zoo officials are searching. Zoo officials said they believe the clouded leopard is still on zoo grounds.

According to KXAS, Dallas Police Department officials said SWAT was also at the scene at the Dallas Zoo.

A press conference with Dallas Zoo officials is expected around 11:30.
