The Dumas Demonette varsity wrestling team won the Texas 5A Dual Championships last weekend. The Demonetta wrestling program is now in its fourth year and is working to create its own wrestling heritage in Dumas. Last weekend’s win will be an important part of their history as it will be their first of many to come.
The Demonettes went 3-0 against the competition. They defeated Azle 48–21 and eight of the 12 wrestlers were victorious.
The Demonettes followed with a 54–15 victory over Lubbock High, with nine of the 12 girls competing walking away with a win.
Dumas advanced to the championship round against Richmond Foster 2-0 and left with a dominant 54-12 win. 10 out of 12 wrestlers brought victory to the Demonettes.
Berkeley Funderburg, Elaine Morgan and Audi Pichardo didn’t lose; Funderburg was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
The Demonettes will return to the mat when they play the Triangle against Amarillo High and Boys Ranch on Thursday, January 26th.
