DPS prepares to fire top Texas Ranger after Uvalde school shooting, CNN reports

UWALDE, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety prepares to fire a high-ranking Texas Ranger for inaction during the response to the Robb Elementary School shooting. CNN report.

Ranger Christopher Ryan Kindell was briefed on Friday of the DPS decision to fire him. reports CNN.

He is one of seven suspended traffic police officers and will become the second traffic police officer to be fired after a failed shooting. According to CNN, Kindell is also the highest-ranking officer currently at risk of being fired.

According to CNN, Kindell arrived at Robb’s elementary school around noon on May 24, the day of the shooting, and was “focused on providing updates to his bosses” rather than plans to break into the classroom where the shooter was located.

“My actions at the scene and during the event were minimal,” Kindell told investigators earlier.

Sergeant Juan Maldonado, also one of the seven DPS officers suspended, was fired late last year for his actions during the return shooting. He was accused of not following active shooter protocol.

Nineteen students and two teachers were killed in a school shooting, the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.
