Florentine man sentenced to 15 years for making and sending child pornography

FLORENCE, TX (KXAN) — A Florentine man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography, the US Justice Department announced Monday.

Joseph Reichard, 23, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison plus 15 years on parole, prosecutors for the Western District of Texas said. He was charged with the sexual exploitation of a child and the production of child pornography.

The office said that Reichard used his mobile phone to create images of child sexual abuse material that showed a minor between the ages of 1 and 3. The images were sent via a messaging app to someone in Pennsylvania.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Reichard was arrested in March 2022 and pleaded guilty in October.

The agency said the case was part of the Safe Childhood project, which fights sexual exploitation and abuse of children. The case was investigated by FBI units in San Antonio and Pittsburgh.
