Greenville resident unharmed in fatal crash in Fannin County

A local resident was not injured in a two-vehicle collision Monday night that killed a Fannin County resident, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The accident happened at 6:15 pm on Monday on State Highway. 78 near FM 1396 in Fannin County, DPS says.

Gamez Santana, 60, of Bonham, was driving a 2021 Kubota tractor and towing a homemade trailer heading south without any emblems, reflective materials or lighting as required, and he slowed to turn left, DPS said.

William Bailey Isham, 65, of Greenville, was driving a 1998 Peterbilt semi-trailer heading south on the highway and saw neither the tractor nor its trailer, and the truck crashed into the tractor and Santana’s trailer from behind, according to DPS.

The traffic police reported that after the impact, Santana’s tractor turned over and he ejected.

According to the traffic police, he died on the spot.

Isham was not hurt.

The investigation continued Wednesday with the DPS office in Cooper.
