Harris County inmate dies first in jail in 2023

HOUSTON (KIAH) — An inmate died Tuesday at the Harris County Jail, the first death there in 2023.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says Jacoby Pillow, 31, was arrested for trespassing on New Year’s Day, January 1st.

He was due to be released on bail on Tuesday when investigators said he attacked an officer in custody at the prison and needed to be restrained.

Investigators said that Pillow underwent a medical examination by prison staff and received permission to return to his cell. A few hours later he was found unconscious in his cell and died in the hospital around 9 am.

The Houston police and sheriff’s office are investigating.
