How to Find a Career That Will Make You Happy

Your career is your primary source of income, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be something you enjoy as well. People spend most of their adult lives at work, so if you want a happy life, it makes sense to find a job that you’re motivated to excel in. Here are a few ways to help you find a good career for your personality and needs.

Love or Money?

It’s often said that if you love what you do, you don’t work a day in your life. But it can seem unrealistic to find a job that you actually enjoy, rather than just something that pays the bills.

If you are able to be happy in a job you aren’t passionate about and you can put it in its right place in your life, then there’s nothing wrong with not loving what you do. You can do other things with your life, it comes down to balance.

But if you are constantly unsatisfied with your life and your career, then passion might matter a lot more. However, it’s still important to find a balance between your hobbies and your work. You can’t monetize every passion.

Monetizing Your Hobbies

However, you can monetize a lot of hobbies. This is especially great for creative hobbies. For example, if you enjoy playing an instrument and are skilled, you can earn money through teaching other people to play the guitar

You can also enter careers and industries that align with your interests. So if you are interested in coding and technology, you might be more interested and skilled in the programming or IT fields.

In some cases, you might not want to completely monetize your hobby and turn it into your main career. After all, this could suck the joy out of something you once loved by making it more pressured. However, you can work on it as a side hustle, earning a bit of extra cash without piling too much pressure on yourself.

Building Skills

One thing to consider is whether you can turn your interests into actual qualifications. While some jobs do allow you to walk in and build your skills on the job, you will often need actual qualifications if you want to enter higher level careers.

For example, if you love diving and spending time in the ocean, you could look into accredited commercial diver training and certification so that you can build your skills and prove them to any potential employers.

Becoming an Entrepreneur

Finally, another option is to go into business yourself. This is especially applicable for creative skills and hobbies, where you either provide a service for someone or deliver a product that they couldn’t do themselves.

Hairdressing, painting, writing, and sculpting are just a few examples of ways that you can go into business yourself. You could do this as a side hustle as mentioned above, but if you are able to find enough customers and build your business, this could become your career and your life.
