This mixed martial arts school, located at 233K Western Blvd, offers classes in Brazilian jiujitsu under the Flavio Behring affiliation, No Gi grappling, mixed martial arts, and American kickboxing. They have a solid Brazilian Jiujitsu competition team, made up of adults and children from all over the community.
The Rising Athlete Warriors – Mixed Martial Arts (RAW MMA) team recently competed in Greensboro, NC for the NORTH AMERICAN GRAPPLING ASSOCIATION (NAGA) event on January 14th. Adults won best team in Gi division, No Gi division runner-up. The kids won second place for their team division and our entire school won best team ever. But don’t count those guys out! Prior to this runner-up, the kids’ team competed for Fuji BJJ in Clayton, NC and won the championship, competing against 50 different schools. They will defend their title in the upcoming Fuji BJJ event on February 4, 2023.
RAW MMA is owned and operated by local couple, Veronica and Chino Duarte. Chino “THE GRENADE” Duarte is a professional mixed martial artist and brown belt in Brazilian jiujitsu, whose dream was to open his own martial arts school after teaching and training at other facilities. Veronica is also an amateur mixed martial artist with several victories under her belt. Both have been training in the sport for over a decade and are bringing their experience to the local area.
Combat sports evolve every day and as its popularity increases among the masses, there is a huge market of students who want to learn from the professionals. The beauty of this sport is that there is not just one discipline. If you choose to learn RAW MMA, you will train in grappling arts such as Brazilian Jiujitsu under the Flavio Behring affiliation. You also gain knowledge in striking arts such as American kickboxing. Competitive fighters can also make a lot of money from private lessons with Coach Chino. It will help prepare the fighter for any of his upcoming MMA/Boxing/Jiujitsu fights.

Children aged 5 and over can get started in Brazilian Jiujitsu, in our MIGHTY MITES class. They will learn extensive knowledge of jiujitsu skills to bring into their competitive and personal lives. Jiujitsu teaches children about trust, teamwork, self-respect, self-defense, work ethic, and a healthier lifestyle.
RAW MMA currently offers afternoon and evening classes throughout the week. Both RAW MMA coaches also encourage everyone from all backgrounds to come in and check out a class – kids, women and men are all welcome! Membership is on a monthly basis with no contracts! This is ideal for the huge demographic of active duty families in Jacksonville, NC and surrounding areas, as long-term contracts can be a difficult obligation to fulfill when work hours are unpredictable.
