KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Freezing weather conditions are affecting flights for people traveling through Kansas City.
Just before 7 a.m. Kansas City International Airport (KCI) closed its airport due to ice contamination on the runways. Airport crews worked overnight to de-ice the runways, but the airport ultimately had to be closed as a safety measure.
The MCI Airport airport has been closed due to ice contamination on the runways. The crews fought through the night but had to close down for safety. Expect reopening in 45-60 minutes. Check airline websites for the latest flight information.

At least one runway was opened before 8am, leading to the resumption of operations.
The MCI Airport runway is NOW OPEN with runway 1L cleared of ice contamination. The crews continue to handle the rest of the airfield. Roads are slippery in areas. Be careful, take your time. Safety first, always.
