TONIGHT AT TEN PAST NINE THIS MONTH MARKS 103 YEARS SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE — LEAGUES RIGHT HERE IN KANSAS CITY. THE — LEAGUES MUSEUM MARKED THE OCCASION WITH A SPECIAL EVENT CALLED WE ARE THE SHIP AT THE BUCK O’NEIL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CENTER. IT’S A NEW CENTER WHICH WAS THE PURCELL YMCA MUSEUM PRESIDENT BOB KENDRICK SAYS THIS PLACE IS PART OF HISTORY BECAUSE IT’S WHERE ANDREW RUBE FOSTER ESTABLISHED THE LEAGUES IN 1920 AND KANSAS CITY IS THE GREATEST BASEBALL MIND THE SPORT HAS EVER SEEN . AND I THINK WHAT HE DID, ALSO, ESTABLISHED THE – LEAGUE IS ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT EVENTS, NOT IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL, BUT IN AMERICAN HISTORY. AND DON’T FORGET, CA

February marks 103 years since the founding of the Negro Leagues. The Negro Leagues Museum celebrated the occasion with a special event called “We Are The Ship” at the Buck O’Neil Education and Research Center. It’s a new center that used to be the Paseo YMCA. Museum president Bob Kendrick said the site is part of history because it is here that Andrew Foster founded the Negro Leagues in 1920. The museum is free to visit throughout February.
