Police are investigating the death of a man who was found shot and killed by the side of a roadway in southeast Kansas City on Monday afternoon.
Just before 3:45 p.m., according to Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting near East 31st Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.
The victim, an adult male, was found east of the crossroads, with gunshot wounds. Officers initiated first responders until emergency medical services arrived at the scene, Drake said.
The victim was transported to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel combed the area on Monday, hoping to find witnesses. Van Brunt’s northbound lanes near the intersection remained closed for several hours following the shooting.
The crime scene is located near several residences and businesses, including a busy McDonald’s. Interstate 70 is a few blocks south.
Drake said no suspicious information is currently available, but he hopes someone passing by may have seen something.
“It was mid-day, a busy intersection. Hopefully there will be people who will come forward with information,” she said. “I would beg them to do it for the victim’s family.”
