Kansas motorcyclists lobby for safer riding conditions

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments (ABATE) along with the Confederation of Kansas Clubs, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and the American Motorcycles Association, held their annual “Bikers Under the Dome” rally and lobbying efforts on Tuesday at the Capitol.

“We’re here in the capital every year,” said Tony Railsback, corporate secretary of ABATE Kansas and assistant lobbyist for ABATE. “We came here to bring motorcycle awareness to our state legislatures. We visit with them and we have Senate Bill 108 this year, which is motorcycle profiling. It’s being pushed federally and we want to bring it back to Kansas.”

“I’m here as a representative of the Motorcyle Riders Foundation in Washington DC to support riders in Kansas,” said Rocky Fox. “Kansas has a pretty large legislative agenda today that we will be talking to members about. One of the main problems is biker profiling, which is targeting a biker because they are bikers. Another issue we are looking into is self-driving vehicles. If those vehicles can read and respond to motorcycles.

ABATE of Kansas is a statewide motorcycle rights organization (SMRO) made up of bikers and enthusiasts from across the state. Putting motorcycle legislation into perspective is our main focus. This is accomplished through safety education programs, public awareness programs, and other propositions designed to prevent injury or death from accidents.
