The Kansas City Public School Board has approved its revised Blueprint 2030 recommendation. The plan will only close Longfellow and Troost Elementary. Instead of the original plan which called for the closure of 10 district schools, including Central High School, which sparked a lot of public outcry. Many people at Wednesday’s meeting praised acting superintendent Dr. Jennier Collier and his leadership for getting to this point. close all schools in the district and most of the board members wanted not to return to this position anytime soon. “I cannot in good conscience vote to close a school that is doing exactly what we want it to do,” said KCPS board member Kandace Buckner. “I think it is important to state that this recommendation is not an indication of the value and importance of our students, staff and family in those schools. Those people are important to the KCPS community and family,” said Dr. Jennifer Collier, KCPS Acting Superintendent. The district has sent a reminder to parents that they will be working closely with families transitioning to a new school. They are also calling on the community to work with them to invest in the future of KCPS students. The district says no other schools are designated to be closed at this time.
