LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Public Library has announced new hours for its branches in Topeka and Shipshewana, effective March 6. The new hours are Monday to Friday, 11:00 to 18:00, and Saturday, 9:00 to 13:00

Preschool Story Time (infant to age 5): LaGrange, every Tuesday at 10:30; Shipshewana, every Tuesday at 1pm; Topeka, every Wednesday at 11:00
Tai Chi: Thursdays at 11am in LaGrange – Learn tai chi with videos from international tai chi master David-Dorian Ross. These gentle workouts focus on slow movement, balance, and deep breathing. In March, participants will tackle Tai Chi Fit Over 50 beginner exercises. Perfect for all ages, this workout combines basic tai chi moves and energizing qigong exercises for an easy full-body workout. This program is free for all ages.
The Walking Well-Read: Indoor walking group, Monday and Thursday at noon in LaGrange. Come to the bookstore for 30 minutes of cardio! Walk up and down the stairs, around the stacks of books, and through some backstage areas. Come in and join the great exercise.
Learn to Knit!: This class is for adults ages 12 and up who have never knitted before. Learn to knit right, purl, cast on and off. All material will be provided. The programs will be held in Topeka on Friday, March 3, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Cost: $5 due in class; at Shipshewana on Friday, March 10, 2:30 to 4:30 pm Cost: $5 due in class; and in LaGrange on Saturday, March 18, 10:00-noon. Cost: $5 due in class. Homeschool Group (all ages): Shipshewana Wednesday, March 8, at 1:00pm; and LaGrange Friday, March 10, at 10:00 am Due to lack of interest in Topeka, the library is asking all Topeka families to join the Shipshewana or LaGrange groups. Registration is required by March 2nd. Registration is available now on the library website or by calling 260-463-2841, ext. 1070. Theme: Spin Art! Brittany with Purdue Extension will be bringing the bike back for another program, this time spinning paint to make art. Other art projects are also available.
Book Club Second Saturday: March 11 at 11:00 a.m. in LaGrange. Discussion for over 16s on Richard Osman’s ‘The Thursday Murder Club’. In a quiet retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Riddler’s Hall to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves the Thursday Murder Club. When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to his body, can these unorthodox detectives catch the killer? Copies of the book are available at the LaGrange Adult Desk.
Games for Teens (Grades 6-12): Monday, March 13, 4-5:45pm at LaGrange. Please register by calling or registering on the library website.
Make-N-Take: No classes in March. Next is April 20th.
Painting with Carl Mosher: Ages 12 to Adults, Friday, March 17, 1-4pm at LaGrange. Carl will provide all materials. The cost is $25 payable to Carl in class. Classes fill up quickly, so register at 260-463-2841, ext. 1030.
Elementary Book Club (Grades 1-3): Tuesday, March 21 at 4:00 pm in LaGrange. Book discussion, a fun activity and distribution of the next selection of books. Sign up by checking the must-read book for the month in the youth department.
Middle Grade Book Club (Grades 4-7): Tuesday, March 21, at 4:00 pm in LaGrange. Discuss “Heart of a Samurai”, do a fun activity and get the next book club book. Sign up by checking the must-read book for the month in the youth department.
Movies & Popcorn (All Ages): Friday, March 24, 6:00 PM in LaGrange. The choice of film is to be decided. Please check the library website or Facebook page for more information. Free movies and free popcorn provided. Bring your drink covered if you wish.
Cookbook Club: Saturday, March 25, 11am in LaGrange. Cookbook Club is a great way to meet new people and try new things. Request the cookbook of the month at the main counter of the LaGrange County Public Library. Choose a recipe and create a free copy in the bookstore. Cook the recipe and take it to the Cookbook Club depot. The Cookbook Club meets on the fourth Saturday of each month. Plates, cutlery, coffee and tea will be provided. Families are welcome.
Teen Book Chat & Craft (grades 8-12): Monday, March 27, 4-5:30 pm at LaGrange. Discuss the book, make a fun craft, and get April’s book picker. Sign up by checking the must-read book for the month in the youth department.
