Man given 10 years probation for manslaughter while intoxicated in 2021 East Austin

Austin (KXAN) — A man was given a 10-year suspended sentence after a 2021 crash that killed one person. At the scene, it was found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Christian Ramos, 26, pleaded guilty to manslaughter while driving while intoxicated in November. In December, he was sentenced to 10 years probation plus 300 hours of community service.

In January 2021, Ramos was arrested following a fatal crash on Interstate 35 service road near Fiesta Mart on 38th Street.

The affidavit states that surveillance video showed Ramos’ car driving northbound on I-35 and another car moving westbound on 38 1/2 East Street. Police said that at the signal, when all the lights were flashing, Ramos crashed into another car at high speed.

Police identified Khairullah Danish, 41, as the other driver. Danish was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramos told police he drank “a couple” of alcoholic drinks before driving and smoked marijuana throughout the day. The officer found that Ramos had lost the normal use of his physical and mental abilities necessary for safe driving due to the introduction of alcohol or drugs into his system.
