‘Mattress Mac’ spends $1.5 million on TCU to win college football championship game

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Jim McKingvale, the Houston furniture store owner commonly known as “Mattress Mac,” has once again turned down a big bet on a major sporting event, this time a college football national championship game.

According to Ben Fawkes of VSNMcIngvale bet $1.5 million on TCU’s win in the college football playoff final against Georgia on Monday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The bet was placed at DraftKings bookmaker in Louisiana.

With Georgia, the reigning national champion, having a 12.5 point lead, McInvale could win $5.55 million if the Horned Frogs were victorious over the Bulldogs.

Mattress Mack is already in business, winning a total of $75 million when his hometown Houston Astros won the World Series in November. McInvale put $10 million into various bookmakers before the 2022 baseball season began on the Astros to win the Major League Baseball championship.

His $30 million win from Casears Sportsbook alone is the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history.

McIngvale also won big in last year’s Men’s College Basketball Championship, winning $12.2 million when Kansas beat North Carolina.

Mattress Poppy already invested $1.5 million. at the University of Houston to win the men’s college basketball national championship this year, which would see him win around $14 million.
