Northeast Side family suspects holiday shooting caused bullet to go through roof of house

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A stray bullet went through the roof of the house and then got stuck in the ceiling of the living room, and the family who lives there believe it was due to a holiday shooting by someone who called on New Year’s Eve.

“They were shooting in the air because they want to celebrate the New Year without having the slightest idea where it will go,” said Adam Hansen, the homeowner.

It’s a new year with the old problem of people replacing firearms with firecrackers.

Hansen is grateful that no one in his family of four was hurt. He said that the bullet was stuck in the ceiling of his living room and did not go through.

“They are clearly scared. They’ve never seen anything like it,” Hansen said, referring to his family.

He said that his wife usually reads in the living room, and his children have game consoles there. This is the room that the family often occupies.

Hansen, who owns a gun himself, doesn’t understand why anyone would fire into the air, not only for the safety of others, but also for the cost.

“As expensive as ammo is, you would think he would use fireworks instead of ammo,” Hansen said.

He filed a complaint with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The BCSO has taken the bullet into evidence and is investigating.

Hansen has a message for a man who has unloaded his weapon.

“Don’t be a fool with firearms. Be responsible. Don’t make other gun owners look bad,” he said.
