Plano’s new transit line is expected to improve airport access

The new Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) line opening in Plano is expected to make it easier for local residents to access DFW Airport.

According to Plano Magazinea new railway line and two interchange stations are being built in Plano.

The new rail line, called the Silver Line, will provide direct service from Plano to DFW Airport, passing Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Grapevine along the way.

Two railway stations will be built. The first station will be located at the 12th Street station near the intersection with K Avenue. It will consist of two pedestrian platforms where DART Red Line riders will stop on the new elevated platform.

The Silver Line connection will be an overland platform between K Avenue and City Hall.

The second station will be built at Shiloh Road station, near the East Plano Parkway junction.

This station will serve as the eastern terminus of the new line and will be built in close proximity to a cluster of R&D businesses.

The new transportation system begins to materialize after more than 30 years of planning in the city of Plano.

Urban planners are expected to form a stakeholder group in early 2023 that will further define the strategic vision for transit stations. The areas surrounding the stations will become the focus of residential and commercial redevelopment in the coming years.

The DART Silver Line system is scheduled to start operating in 2024.
