Police officer and pedestrian killed in crash
Police say a car crashed into the police car, which then struck someone walking nearby.

THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT WILL BE TO GET THERE. WE ARE FOLLOWING THE LATEST NEWS THIS MORNING. FIRST, HOWEVER, A K-9 POLICE OFFICER, PEDESTRIAN AND POLICE DOG ALL DIED AFTER AN ACCIDENT IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI LAST NIGHT. All right, KABC, NICE. MARTIN AUGUSTINE IS LIVE THIS MORNING. HORRIBLE. MARTIN. WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE VICTIMS SO FAR? WELL, THE COP HAS SERVED THE TOWN FOR 20 YEARS. THE POLICEMAN’S DOG HAS BEEN A PART OF THE DOG GROUP FOR ABOUT A YEAR. WE YET KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE PEDESTRIAN WHO WAS CROSSING THIS INTERSECTION HERE BETWEEN TRUMAN ROAD AND BENTON BOULEVARD THE NIGHT WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE OFFICER WAS ON PATROL IN THIS PART OF THE CITY WHEN THE DRIVER OF ANOTHER CAR COLLABORATED WITH THE OFFICERS’ SQUAD CAR. THE RESULT OF THAT ACCIDENT, THE POLICE TELL US, SENT ONE OR BOTH CARS INTO THE PERSON WHO WAS PASSING BY HERE AND HE WAS KILLED. THE DRIVER OF THE CAR WHO HIT THE OFFICER HAS BEEN TREATED FOR LEGAL HARM AND IS IN POLICE DETAINE AS THE INQUIRY OF THIS INCIDENT CONTINUES. THIS MORNING, WE WILL LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THIS CRASH LATER TODAY. WE ARE EXPECTED TO HEAR FROM THE NEW POLICE CHIEF, STACY GRAVES, ADDRESS THIS TERRIBLE SITUATION FOR HIS DEPARTMENT. A police officer, his K9 partner and a pedestrian are all dead after a crash in Kansas City, MO Wednesday night. Police say shortly after 10:15 p.m. near the Benton Blvd. and Truman Road area, a car crashed into the officer’s car. That incident caused the cruiser to hit a person walking nearby. Officers say the pedestrian and dog died at the scene. The EMS took the officer to hospital, where he died of his injuries. The driver of the car that crashed into them was only slightly injured. The police arrested them for questioning. The Kansas City Police Department has not released the fallen officer’s name, but says he was a 20-year veteran. The pedestrian’s name has also not been released. Chief Stacey Graves will speak to reporters Thursday morning to provide more details on what happened.
