Police say suspect in south Houston motel double shooting is wanted

Christopher George Edwards (Houston Police Department)

HOUSTON (KIAH) — One woman is dead and another is in the hospital Tuesday morning after she was shot dead at a motel in south Houston and police identified the suspect.

Police have charged Christopher George Edwards, 52, with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon following Monday night’s shooting. Edwards is not in custody and the police are currently looking for him.

When officers arrived at the Cushingberry Motel at 4510 Idaho Street, near Cullen Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, a 41-year-old woman was found to be on CPR. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Another woman, aged 21, was taken to hospital in a stable condition and is expected to survive.

Police said the victims were a mother and daughter, and the shooter was the mother’s boyfriend in a long-term relationship.

But the mother and Edwards had an argument, and he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot her multiple times, then shot the daughter multiple times, hitting her once, police said.

Edwards then fled the scene.

Anyone with information on Edwards’ whereabouts, or in this case, is strongly advised to contact the HPD Homicide Unit at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
