Sanders Signs Executive Order to Repeal US Rescue Plan and Infrastructure Committees

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas. (KNWA/KFTA) — Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed an executive order Jan. 24 to terminate the Arkansas American Rescue Plan Act Steering Committee and Infrastructure Planning Advisory Committee.

Under the order, Arkansas has established two committees to determine where federal funding will be distributed under the American Rescue Plan Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sanders’ executive order cancels the executive orders creating the ARPA Steering Committee and Arkansas Infrastructure Planning Advisory Committee.

The order states that the previous administration failed to pay the full amount of federal funds provided to Arkansas, leaving Sanders and her administration to determine how the funds will be paid in accordance with federal and state law.

Under the Executive Order, Sanders and her administration, in consultation with the General Assembly, will make recommendations on how Arkansas’ ARPA and IIJA federal funding should be allocated.

The order states that state federal earmarked funding through ARPA and IIJA will not be distributed to organizations without further action by the administration and in accordance with Arkansas law.

According to the order, the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration will not review applications submitted for ARPA or IIJA federal funding before or after the date of the order without further action by the administration and in accordance with state law.
