EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen, who led the department for almost 15 years, has died, multiple sources have confirmed.
Assistant Chief Zina Silva announced Allen’s death in an email to officers on Tuesday afternoon, according to nonprofit news organization ElPasoMatters.org.
Allen has been El Paso’s police chief since 2008 and became the first African American to serve as the city’s police chief.
He worked in the department in 1978 and rose through the ranks.
