Shooting victim found dead in street Friday afternoon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating after a shooting left a man dead on the street Friday afternoon.

Officers received a 1:00 p.m. call about a shooting in the 2100 block of E. 24th Terrace, just west of Brooklyn Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man on the street in front of a residence. EMS then went to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.

There was reportedly a disagreement on the street, culminating in a shootout.

Police arrested a person of interest at the scene. At present, they are not looking for any other suspects.

Investigators believe there was an Uber the person concerned had previously called at the scene, i.e. before the shooting.

They believed the Uber, a blue Jeep Patriot, had left the scene before officers arrived. They believed the vehicle might contain evidence inside that the driver would not have known about.

Later in the afternoon, police said in an update that the person driving the Jeep has been in contact with investigators. So, they are no longer trying to get in touch with that person.

If you have information that could help detectives in their investigation, you are asked to call the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043. You can also call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

UPDATE:

Police identified the victim of this murder as 35-year-old Gabriel Williams.

The investigators will work with the prosecutor’s office to present information about the case so they can make a decision regarding the applicable charges.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story misidentified the victim in this case. This has been corrected.
