Tar mop is responsible for the fire at the Harbor Freight store in Texarkana

TECHARCANA, Texas. A tar mop caused the fire on the roof of a Texarkana Harbor Freight store on Wednesday.

According to Texarkana Texas Acting Fire Chief Chris Black, the fire at the Oaklawn Village shopping area started during rooftop repairs when tar, which can reach temperatures of up to 500 degrees, ignited on a mop above the Harbor Freight store.

Luckily, no one was injured in the fire and it was quickly extinguished. The only damage was a section of the roof.

“It didn’t go through the roof of the Harbor Freight,” said Wanda Queen, property manager for Oaklawn Village. “We feel like we dodged a bullet.”
