Two brothers were arrested in a weekend shootout in Garland that left one dead and another hospitalized.

Christopher Sagrero, 17, and Jose Sagrero, 19, have been charged with murder, according to Garland police. The brothers were originally incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail on one count of aggravated assault, but the charges were increased after the victim’s death. said Lieutenant Richard Maldonado, a police spokesman.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, officers answered a call about “weapon violations” on the 400 block of South Forest Crest Drive, police said. They found one person who had been shot dead and were told that the second victim had already gone to a medical facility.

Stephen LaFuente, lawyer for José Sagrero, said after talking to his client that there appeared to be a “chaotic scene” at the barbershop where the shooting took place.

“I am quite certain that this case will involve various defense theories such as self-defense and defense of others,” LaFuente said in a text message, adding that more details on the case will be available after the bail reduction hearing for his client. . .

A lawyer representing Christopher Sagrero did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Police did not say how they connected the Sagreros to the shooting.

On Tuesday afternoon, the brothers remained in custody on $250,000 bail each, although it was unclear if it would be changed after the charges were raised.
