The Dumas Demona and Demonettes varsity basketball teams hosted the Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs in a district game on Tuesday, January 10th. The Demons have taken their first district win of the season, and the Demonettes are still looking for their first district win.


The Dumas Demonette varsity basketball team lost to the Borger Lady Bulldogs 58–37. The Demonettes fought late to keep the game interesting, but Borger’s lead was too big to overcome.

“Lady Bulldogs” quickly beat “Demonette” and led 13:0 at the beginning of the first quarter. Brooklyn Sianes put Dumas on the board with a hard contested kick after she bounced off the ball. Camryn Cox added another basket for the Demonettes, but Borger extended their lead with three to take a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to trail the Demonettes in the second quarter, outscoring them 9–5. Cox hit two free throws and Isma Garcia hit three in an attempt to take the lead. Borger led 26-9 at the end of the first half.

Demonette had the best quarter in the third basket find. Cianes had one of her best offensive games ever, scoring five points in a row. Cox also had a big five-point quarter and Riley Schacher joined him with two baskets, but Borger edged the trio by one to maintain a 41-23 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Borger kept the Demonettes from returning by adding 17 points to their lead as Sianes and Shaher combined for eight points and Garcia made two triples to try to get the Demonettes back in the game, but the Bulldog Lady were too strong as they walked away with a 58-37 win.

Cianes finished the game with 11 points, four steals, one assist and one rebound, while Cox had 10 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist. Garcia had nine points, three rebounds and one steal.

Demonette’s record is 6-17 overall and 0-6 in district play.

The Demons dominated the Borger Bulldogs with an 83–62 win, their first county win of the season.

Dumas’ demons controlled the game from a jump. They quickly took a 9-0 lead before the Bulldogs called a timeout to regroup. The Demons continued to roll, closing the first quarter with a 26-13 lead.

The second quarter ended with a 17-17 draw between Borger and Dumas. Matthew Tapp fired up from behind the arc, hitting three triples in the quarter to help Dumas stay ahead of the Bulldogs. Dumas led 43-20 into the half.

Dumas hit the gas pedal in the third quarter and really dominated the Bulldogs. They beat Borger 24-9, making a Bulldogs comeback very difficult, if not impossible. Noah Williams made a pair of 3-pointers and hit the basket as the Demons led the Bulldogs 67–39 in the fourth quarter.

Dumas continued to fall behind Borger in the fourth quarter as they ended the game with an 83–62 win.

The Demons’ record is 17-7 overall and 1-3 in district play.
