The group demands answers about the Kansas City Police shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It’s been two years since Malcolm Johnson, 31, was shot and killed by Kansas City police officers while buying a lottery ticket at a gas station on Prospect.

Social justice group “It’s Time 4 Justice” said it has been too long since Johnson’s family has been left without justice or answers.

Mitchell Sudduth with the group says there has been little or no information about the truth surrounding Johnson’s death and Kansas City police offer involvement in the shooting.

“We have evidence showing things that have happened, the question is why are the investigations still ongoing,” Sudduth said. “Now we know it doesn’t take two years for an investigation into the Tyree Nichols case, this one was resolved in 21 days.”

The Jackson County Attorney has assigned a St. Louis County Special Prosecutor to this case.

Sudduth says Johnson’s family wants to know why that is and why no officers have been charged.

“We need answers at the end of the day and today we’re asking the Justice Department to step in and step in and shed some light on what’s going on for us,” Sudduth said.

According to KCPD, any officers involved who were placed on routine administrative leave returned to full duty.

The St. Louis County Special Prosecutor said he has news on the case that will be released soon, but did not provide a date for when an announcement will be made.
