CENTERVILLE – The 12th Iowa Central wrestling team continued to eliminate ranked opponents, this time dealing with the 9th number Indian Hills, 30-14.

The Newts continued on their way to the NJCAA national doubles title with victories over the Iowa Lakes and the Warriors, heading to Wyoming to take on more senior teams.

Fort Dodge senior alumnus Brooks Cowell got Iowa Central on the board in a 3-0 133-pound win over Manuel Limón. Matt Sarbo, Nathan Napolitano, Andrew Gamble, Phil Smith Jr. and John Lovett followed with victories.

Smith pinned Lucas Henderson at 174 and Lovett did the same to Tobias Bell at 197. Sarbo took a technical fall and Napolitano won by decision. Lane Cowell, Caleb Nadig and Hugo Harp lost to ranked wrestlers.

Iowa Central is 4-1 in the ICCAC, with the only loss coming in November at Iowa Western. The Indian Hills won their first four doubles in the league, including a 28-18 win over the Iowa Western earlier this month.

Apodaca Duals, hosted by Northwest Wyoming, takes place Friday and Saturday in Powell, Wyoming. The Tritons will return home on Thursday, February 2 to take on Ellsworth in their final bout at Hodges Fieldhouse of the season.
