Two Plano teachers honored for hard work

Teachers are often overlooked when it comes to special recognition. But two teachers in Plano were honored for their hard work in North Texas and named winners of the Market Street and Mrs. Baird’s “Teachers on the Rise” program.

Gina Carnes of Mitchell Elementary School and Dina Reed of Plano East Senior High School were the two teachers nominated for the award. The school district announced this last week, but the winners will be announced in November. The program celebrates teachers on a monthly basis for their exceptional work.

“We want to congratulate all of our teachers and students who are part of this round of winners,” said Nancy Sharp, Director of Corporate Engagement at The United Family. “There are so many teachers in our communities who deserve recognition. With lots of [school] a year ahead of us, we encourage everyone to keep nominating!”

Two Plano teachers were among those nominated by North Texas students, parents and families who want to give special recognition to their top teachers. Winners will receive a $100 Market Street gift card, a $100 American Express gift card, and a basket full of Mrs. Baird’s products.

But the donation doesn’t stop there. Students who nominate a winning teacher will also receive a $50 American Express gift card for taking the time to nominate their special teacher.

“Since we launched the program in 2021, we have been honored to honor more than 30 educators in North Texas,” said Shane Sumrow, director of Teachers on the Rise. “We know there are many teachers in our classes who deserve recognition and we look forward to more nominations throughout the school year.”

Teachers are selected monthly for special recognition. Student, parent and family nominations can be posted on woobox.com.
