Typewriter Rodeo: Who do you call a cowboy?

Do you really need to ride horses regularly to wear cowboy boots? Do you have to fix fences or herd cattle to love a good cowboy hat? This typewriter rodeo poem questions the meaning of “real” cowboy.

Who are you calling a cowboy?

here’s to the true few
who talks about hats
no cattle
horses roam without a saddle
strangers take your titles
Texas or Tejas
not have friendship as your motto?
Not enough free range to share?
I dare
anyone, everyone to earn those spurs
encouraging camaraderie, so to speak
lassoed with love
as your area grows
welcoming new pastures
and horizons unknown
in fact,
you can call yourself a cowboy
if you’ve never done it?
