North Texas has relied on a long line of standout kickers over the past few years, from Trevor Moore to Cole Hedlund and most recently Ethan Mooney.
UNT may have got the next player in that line on Wednesday when former Baylor kicker Noah Rauschenberg decided to continue his career at Mean Green.
Rauschenberg announced his decision on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tulsa native was due to visit Oklahoma this weekend.
“After much thought and much prayer, I have decided not to make an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend,” Rauschenberg wrote. “After they said, I decided to take the UNT!!”
Rauschenberg spent four seasons with Baylor and was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team twice. He was a kickoff specialist first and foremost, and last season, 57 of his 75 kickoffs were dropped by touchbacks.
Rauschenberg will have the opportunity to take on an expanded UNT role. Angry Green lost Mooney to release after last season when he hit 18 of 21 field goals and all but one of his 55 extra points en route to earning an honorable mention at the All-Conference USA.
Rauschenberg was named to the 2018 Tulsa Union State First Team when he hit 10 of 16 field goals, including one from 54 yards.
In the 2023 season, Rauschenberg will have a chance to win the kicking job.
