Warrant issued when defendant fails to appear for sentencing for child endangerment

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – An arrest warrant has been ordered by a judge for a Wichita Falls woman when she failed to appear at an appeal hearing on two counts of child endangerment and drug charges.

Samantha Hathaway, 37, was due to be sentenced in her plea deal in the 89th District Court on Thursday, February 16, 2023. This is the second warrant issued on the alleged violations since her initial indictment and bail.

She was arrested in 2020 after police said she and her husband were pulled over in a car filled with personal belongings and drugs, and her two children were found in a small backseat space with drugs nearby.

They said the driver tried to hide a pipe and when officers told Hathaway to get out of the passenger seat, they said she was sitting on a large bag of meth in very large shreds. In addition to the meth, officers said they found marijuana, a camera case containing black tar heroin, syringes and meth tubes. They say two girls were in a backseat with items piled all around them and next to them a burnt soda can filled with cotton wool soaked in heroin residue.

As an officer sat down with the children, he said they casually remarked that they weren’t allowed to touch the briefcase with the heroin in it.

Hathaway was also arrested again in May 2022 when officials say she failed to meet the conditions of her bail and was believed to be in Sandy, Utah.

She was taken back to the Wichita County Jail about a week later and then released again about two weeks later.
