According to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers found a body in a Grande Prairie field on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Kayla Kelly, 33, was reported missing on Jan. 11 after her friends didn’t see or hear from her for days, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office said. After her disappearance, Kelly’s car was found burnt beyond recognition on January 12 in a remote area of Frisco.
Ocastor Ferguson, 32, was arrested on charges of kidnapping while investigating Kelly’s disappearance. He was jailed on $1 million bail, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials told the WFAA that the body was found less than a mile from Ferguson’s home.
According to an affidavit taken from the WFAA, Ferguson and Kelly dated after meeting online in 2022. Ferguson told investigators that he used a fake name when he met with Kelly. Before disappearing, Kelly found out that Ferguson was married after learning his real identity. The affidavit stated that Kelly said she would tell Ferguson’s wife about their affair if he did not answer her.
Phone records showed that Ferguson drove to the area where Kelly’s car was found, the affidavit says. Ferguson told investigators he didn’t know what happened to Kelly.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office did not say if the body found belonged to Kelly. The recovered remains will be further examined by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The public is advised to contact the Collin County Sheriff’s Office with any information related to Kelly’s disappearance. Investigators can be contacted at (972) 547-5100 or text 847411.
