Woodway man charged with child pornography and soliciting petty charges online

WOODWAY, TexasKWTX)- A 21-year-old Woodway man was charged Thursday with allegedly having an abusive online relationship with a 12-year-old girl and possession of child pornography, authorities say.

A McLennan County grand jury indicted James Daniel Myers on one count of online harassment of a minor and two counts of possession of child pornography, felony in the third degree, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

According to arrest records, Woodway police investigators opened an investigation into Myers after receiving a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in February. The report alleged that Myers was involved in an illegal online relationship with a 12-year-old girl, according to the affidavit.

The report includes excerpts from conversations from an instant messaging social networking site called Discord in which Myers admits to receiving nude photos from a young girl, according to sworn testimony.

Woodway officers contacted Myers at his home, and he admitted to engaging in “explicit sexual conversations with minors” and said he had received nude photographs of minors in the past, the minutes said.

Investigators obtained consent to search Myers’ electronic media, including his mobile phone, and obtained a search warrant for information on his Discord account. While checking Myers’ Discord account, officers found several direct messages in which Myers requested nude photos of girls he believed were under 17, the affidavit says.

Myers engaged in other Discord conversations over several weeks with a girl who said she was 15 years old. The officer described the conversations as “sexually satisfying”. In July 2021, Myers received a photo of a girl that had apparently been deleted, and later that month asked the girl, “So if I get through all the classes, can I get a photo of a butt?” He also told her, “I like to show everything,” according to the arrest.

Officers tracked the girl to an address in Covington, Washington and alerted her mother.
