North Kansas City Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Clemens will retire after the 2023-2024 school year. Clemens will be in the school district for eight years by the end of his term. The school district announced the move in a news release Wednesday. “Dr. Clemens is a visionary and relentless advocate for all students. He leaves an indelible mark on the district,” NKC Schools said in its press release. The search for a new supervisor is currently underway. The NKC Schools Board of Education is interviewing internal candidates and says it will look to external if an ideal candidate is not found. An announcement regarding the transition is expected by the end of the current school year. Clemens has worked with NKC schools for 23 years. During that time, he served as principal at three schools and as a district administrator. Dr. Clemens was named Missouri Middle School’s 2009-10 Principal of the Year at Eastgate. “Being part of the NKC Schools family is something I love and always will cherish,” Clemons said in the press release. “Education has been my life for so long now and I can’t think of a greater calling. We are shaping the future with every graduating class.” NKC Schools is the second largest district in the state of Missouri. The district experienced increased graduation rates during Clemens’ time as superintendent. The district touted the following accomplishments in its press release: Construction of six new school buildings with two more elementary schools in progress and renovations to dozens more. Bringing all early education programs into one centralized location. Establishing the College & Career Pathways program , which ensures students graduate with life-ready skills. Summer learning loss impact efforts, opening Missouri’s only elementary schools in Crestview and Winnwood. Lyceum.

The district publicized the following findings in its press release:
- Construction of six new school buildings with two more elementary schools underway and renovations of dozens more.
- Bring all early education programs into one centralized location.
- Established the College & Career Pathways program, ensuring students graduate with life-ready skills.
- Efforts to address summer learning loss, opening Missouri’s only elementary schools in Crestview and Winnwood.
- Development of straight feeder models for each of the four high schools. As well as instilling great pride and connection between elementary schools, sixth grade centers, middle schools and associated high schools.
