Prosecutors in Kansas City, Missouri, dismissed Monday (January 23) assault charges against Tool drummer Danny Carey in an incident at the city’s airport in December 2021. According to Fox 4, a court spokesman did not given a reason for dropping the charges, telling the outlet the case was a “closed confidential matter” as of this week.

Carey was arrested for a misdemeanor at Kansas City International Airport on December 12, 2021 after allegedly getting into an altercation. That evening, airport law enforcement received notice of a “disturbance between two men in an airport terminal,” resulting in Carey being arrested on a misdemeanor basis and transported to a nearby police station in the United States. The other man, whose name has not been released at the time, has not been taken into custody. Fox 4 reported that, according to a note issued by officers, Carey intentionally inflicted injuries when she allegedly yelled a homophobic slur at the unnamed victim as she jabbed him in the chest with two fingers. TMZ video from the evening showed Carey handcuffed at the airport and talking to officers outside the terminal, where she could be heard asking, “Who did I assault?”
As of press time, a Tool spokesperson had not returned a request for comment from Billboard on the dismissal of the allegations; a spokesman for the Kansas City attorney’s office also had not returned a request for comment as of press time.
According to reports at the time, the Kansas-raised drummer performed in the bleachers with the school band during the University of Kansas vs. University of Missouri basketball game the day before his arrest.
