How Texas Gas Prices Have Changed Over the Last Week |

The gas pumps are lighting up in an unusual trend for this time of year: higher gas prices week on week.

A gallon of gas cost an average of $3.50 this week, according to AAA gas price data. Stacker has compiled statistics on gas prices in Texas. Gas prices are updated to January 27th. State gas tax data is from the World Population Review.

Typically, winter weather prevents Americans from traveling and therefore suppresses gas demand and prices. But this January, gasoline refineries are still operating below optimal capacity after harsh winter weather damaged some equipment and mothballed more than 10 percent of US refinery capacity.

The largest weekly increases were seen in Colorado, Delaware and Michigan, as well as southern states including Mississippi and Alabama. Analysts have warned that we could see gas average $4 a gallon by May. Gas prices hit record highs last June at $5 on average nationwide.
