WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – A Wichita Falls woman is accused of child abuse after school officials notified police and Child Protective Services of suspicious injuries to a 5-year-old boy.
Makayla Bolf was charged with harming a child and was jailed on Monday, February 13 on $20,000 bond.
On February 7, the police and CPS went to the school and spoke with the school staff and the child.
School officials said the boy had a bruise on his jaw that extended to the center of his neck. The boy said that Bolf picked him up and threw him on the ground.
A physical examination was carried out and officials said they found multiple injuries on his body, including bruises on the left side of his face, the back of his head, right arm and upper back.
The red bruises on his back told police that a belt or loop object had caused them.
A forensic interview was later conducted and the boy said he got into trouble for kicking his sister, and Bolf threw him to the ground and kicked him in the jaw.
She said she kicked him in the side too, then told him to go to her room and find a belt. He said she went into her closet, took her belt, wrapped it up and hit him on the legs, back and buttocks with it and kicked him again in the back.
Police said the boy’s story is no different from what he told the nurse and school counselor.
Officers said Bolf denied causing the injuries and said she just yelled at him and sent him to bed after kicking his sister.
They said they showed her photos of the boy’s injuries, and she said again there was no way to cause them, and she didn’t know how he got them or who could have done them.
They said she told them she was the only adult caring for the child.
Police included a previous arrest warrant for Bolf in 2020 for making a false statement to police in a breach of an affidavit on the arrest of a minor, and said it indicates he is not credible.
Police said they reported her car had been stolen and, when presented with messages on her phone, admitted she had lied to cover for her boyfriend, who had the car and was being chased by officers for suspected drunk driving and fled after leaving his car near his home.
That case was dismissed because she was not arrested until July 2022 and the case never went to a grand jury before the statute of limitations expired.
