WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A few weeks ago, we spoke to an outreach center in Anthony who asked the community and families to send Valentine’s Day cards to their residents.
Janet White, social services coordinator at the Anthony Community Care Center, said the reaction has been overflowing with love because the cards keep coming.
Residents received more than 150 Valentine’s Day cards from those in the community. From candy grams to love boxes, residents have had the chance to relive their childhoods and reminisce about the good old days of what it’s like to have a Valentine’s Day.
White said the gesture meant a lot to the home’s staff and residents.
“It makes me feel very grateful that we have people who still care, and residents see people care,” she said.
So much care, in fact, that hundreds of cards have arrived from people and families from all over the country.
“It was a much bigger turnout than I thought,” White said. “We had papers from Florida, Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.”
Now those cards are hung on the wall or hidden in boxes for safe keeping.
“They’re all really nice,” said resident Carol Wilkinson. “I love cards.”
“Those beautiful cards from the kids — I think there’s nearly 40 of them, and they’re not all up there (on the wall),” said resident Norma Jean. “Everyone has one that would never have one, which I’m so pleased and delighted with.”
With cards from people all over the country, it’s safe to say that the residents of Anthony Community Care Center are filled with love.
“One day I read from 3 to 4, that’s how many I had that day,” Norma Jean said. “I loved each of them. I love them in my heart.
